Peace Corps applauds Osinbajo's handling of agitations

- Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has been hailed for his handling of the agitations across the country
- The commendation was from the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN)
- The PCN is currently in a celebratory mood as they mark their 19th anniversary
The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) has commended Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for the matured way he has handled the affairs of the country, in relation with many hate speeches and threats of secession across Nigeria.
Addressing journalists at the Youth House, Abuja, on Monday, July 10, in commemoration of the its 19th anniversary, the national commandant, Ambassador (Dr.) Dickson Akoh, challenged Nigerian leaders at all levels, to emulate the leadership style of the acting president in addressing delicate issues, rather using confrontation and coercion.
We challenge leaders of different levels of our society to emulate the approach adopted by the acting president in resorting to consultation, dialogue and integrated negotiations as a fundamental prerequisite for peace and social order.
“This approach has proven to be more productive as against confrontation and coercion.
“Our youths, who are the dependable beacon and stronghold of hope for this generation, should constantly be conscious of the 'use and dump'attitudes of self-serving politicians, sectional warlords and elites, and look inward on their roles as agents of positive change and nation-building.
“Our youths should resist any attempt to be drafted into fanning the embers of disintegration,”Ambassador Akoh said.
The Corps vowed to continue in championing the course of sensitising the youths and general populace across the country, on the need to support genuine government policies and programmes, and the sustenance of Nigeria's nationhood.
On the bill for an act to establish Nigerian Peace Corps, which is currently waiting assent at the National Assembly, Ambassador Akoh said both houses of the National Assembly had already passed the bill.
He said the Senate would soon adopt the conference committee report as done by the green chamber.
He also expressed optimism that the bill would receive speedy assent from the presidency.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it has nothing against the Nigerian Peace Corps.
This was the stance of the NSCDC deputy controller, Musa Farouk, who spoke on behalf of their commandant on Tuesday, May 30, while appearing before the Senate committee on judiciary and human rights.
